April 29, 2006
Decatur, IL
Reported by J.C. Weyand
The Decatur Civic Center in Decatur, IL was packed with over 1,800 people for the Courage Fighting Championships V. The card featured 8 amateur fights and 10 professional fights. The main event of CFC V saw undefeated King of the Cage 135 lbs. fighter Jason Reinhardt taking on Josh McMurrin, who tipped the scales at over 190 lbs.
The crowd was really pumped, and the first bouts did not disappoint. The amateur fights were highlighted by a brutal beating Allen Woodcock gave Tom Swindle, which resulted in a referee stoppage and blood all over our table. There was also a great ladies match up that saw Sherri Revis getting a win over Sonia Sergeant by submission.
Here's the play by play from the professional fights:
Chase Beebe (145 lbs.) vs. Jesse Rongey (145 lbs.)
ROUND 1: Chase shoots in and takes down Jesse. Beebe gets the mount and applies a guillotine from the mount. Rongey taps.

Dan Sandman (192 lbs.) vs. Darryl Cobb (197 lbs.)
ROUND 1: Nice Jedi meditation pre-fight by Cobb. Nah, it's actually Tai meditation, but Jedi's cool too. The fight opens with a brutal leg kick by Cobb. Sandman answers with some punches of his own. He throws a big punch, but misses. They each trade punches with nothing major landing. Sandman swings wildly and Cobb hits with another leg kick. Cobb blocks a flurry by Sandman, but Sandman lands a big punch. Cobb is a little groggy, but manages to land another leg kick. He gets a takedown. Sandman's leg is welting up really bad now. They're inactive on the ground and the ref stands them up. They each trade punches that land. Sandman hits a knee and that's the end of round one. What a great round - very hard for a judge to score.
ROUND 2: The round starts off with a good combo by Sandman. Cobb answers it, though, with a nice punch and hits him with another leg kick. Sandman hits Cobb with a hard body shot and nice combo. Cobb hits him with yet another leg kick. It has to be hard for Sandman to stand up. Sandman lands a big punch and follows up with a few more. Cobb stumbles a bit, then hits Sandman with 3 huge punches of his own! It looks like Sandman's nose is broken and his eye is bleeding profusely. Sandman is rocked and stumbles away. He dodges a few punches by Cobb and then lands a awesome home run punch right on the button! Cobb goes down. Sandman gets his back, then goes into the mount. He starts raining down punches to finish the fight. Cobb's in trouble, but the ref stops the fight to check on Sandman's nose and eye. His face is really bloody now, as is Cobb's. The doctor comes in and says they're both ok to fight, and the ref restarts it from the mount. Sandman lands several punches to the face and body, but Cobb gets half guard. The stand up and trade punches to end the round. Wow!
ROUND 3: The start of the final round swinging away and both landing shots to the head. Cobb lands a big shot. Sandman just shakes it off. I just noticed that Cobb's lower lip is hanging off his face - lots of blood in this fight. They exchange punches again with a nice shot landed by Cobb. Sandman lands a leg kick of his own. HUGE punch by Sandman and Cobb is OUT! The war is over with Dan Sandman knocking Darryl Cobb out cold. This was clearly the fight of the night, and probably the best fight I've ever seen. It was like Griffin/Bonnar but better, bloodier, and ended in a KO. Awesome fight.

The announcer does a nice rant after the fight. He tells the crowd that if they think they can fight better than the fighters they see tonight, to tell the promoter after the fight and he guarantees they'll be fighting in the next Courage Fighting Championships.

This is the main event of the evening and a huge fight for undefeated King of the Cage bantamweight Jason Reinhardt. Even with the extra weight he gained for the fight, he is still outweighed by his opponent by nearly 45 lbs.
